Screen Material & Screen Cloth

Screen material choices today are getting to the point that you need to be a scientist to figure out all your options. It was not so long ago that all we had to choose from was aluminum and fiberglass screen cloth. Before that the only choice was steel.

Now we still have tried & tested fiberglass screen but in a wide variety of widths and sizes. There are different thicknesses for window and doors as well as screen porches.

If you are troubled by tiny insects such as "noseeums", there is a fiberglass cloth for that. There is even a fiberglass cloth that supposed to block out pollens to help with allergy sufferers. I even seen companies in China making fiberglass screen in a rainbow of different colours.

Good old aluminum screening is still around and you have a few choices to make there, black aluminum wire or bright wire. Of all the screen materials it seems to be the one that is falling behind in development. Of course some people still swear by black aluminum as being the most invisible of screen cloth.

Steel screening is coming back with new versions like epoxy coated stainless steel wire. But you can still get the old galvanized steel screening your grandad was used to.

There is copper screening which is an old material. Its very expensive but a good choice if you live in an area near the sea.

Then there is solar screen. 30% and 90% UV blocking. Dozens of different weaves you can choose from and now even printed solar screens where you can have any picture you please printed on the material.

Next comes Petscreen. Its become really popular with pet owners who spend every year replacing the screens. The are also guards to protect from dogs scratching.

Mosquito repellent screens for those who want to take their screens comping with them.

Finally to hold all this screen cloth in you generally need a lot of screen spline. And of course there are many shapes and sizes for that!
