Snake cage screen broken

by Erika
(San Antonio, TX)

My cat sat on the the top of my snake's glass cage last evening and fell through the sliding screen on the top. Consequently, the screen is broken. Is there a way to repair this? Order a new one? Or buy a new cage? Of course I would prefer to repair it myself.

Hi Erika; Many aquarium screen lids just use regular black aluminum window screening held in with spline. Any glass and window shop ought to be able to repair it for you.

Most hardware stores will sell you the screen material and spline to do it yourself. The key is getting the same size spline that was originally used. Take the old spline with you to make sure you get the right size.

Some screen lids have heavier guage wire tack welded to the frame. If thats the case, its probably going to end up cheaper buying a new lid.
