The gold colored rings are bronze bushings which the hinge pin rides in. Bronze is very commonly used in hinges for storm doors, especially with aluminum hinges because the bronze can allow the door to open and close without distorting the soft aluminum.
The hinge in the picture below is a steel open face hinge. It has a removeable pin which is a useful feature for a storm door. You can pull the hinge pins out and take the wooden door off and store for the winter, so the weather does not destroy your wooden storm door. |
