Retractable screen for french door

Usually the french door has a top and bottom track for a french screen door. Simply measure as for a regular patio door screen or have your local glass shop do it for you and purchase a retractable screen for french door.

Some french doors have no tracks at all. Tracks can be added to the top and bottom of the door to allow installation of a retractable screen for french door. Not a big deal for your local glass shop.

When you are looking at a retractable screen for french door look out for how your door sill is constructed. Your retractable screen door needs a bottom track and if it is mounted so that it interferes with your stepping in and out of the door, it will quickly get broken. Its nice when the bottom track for the retractable screen for french door can be mounted flush with the sill. Unfortunately not all french door sills allow that to be done.

Some french doors may need to have the center section or astragal of the door built out to allow the retractable screen for french door to operate properly. This may not look as nice as you would like. Check with your installer before they touch your door.

If you are putting in a new french door, try to purchase one that comes with a screen door already installed. If thats not possible, talk about the need for a screen door with the salesman and get the requirement for it included with your purchase contract.
