Replacement screen doors are available for just about any slding patio door in existence. You dont have to go to the manufacturer. Often manufacturers dont even make their own replacement screen doors and instead use standardized screen door frame materials made to their specific sizes.

Measuring Replacement sliding screen doors

There are no standard sizes for replacement sliding screen doors. Every manufacturer has their own sizes. The trick is to get the measurement of the screen door right.

If you have the original screen door, or if your neighbour has an identical door, the process is simple. Just measure the height and width of the old door. But if you have no screen door at all you will need to figure out what style of mounting your screen door has.

To measure a screen door properly, you need to determine if you have a a channel to track mounting, a track to track mounting or a top hung door,. Almost all screen doors run on a track at the bottom. They differ in how they are held at the top.

A channel to track door has a channel at the top of the patio door that the screen door rides in. To measure the height of the screen door you need to measure from the top of that top channel, to the top of the track on the door bottom sill.

A track to track door has a track at the top very similar to the track at the bottom. To measure correctly you need to measure from the bottom of the top track to the top of the bottom track on the bottom door sill.

A top hung door has rollers that hang from a lip at the top of the patio door. You need to measure from the top of that lip to the top of the track on the bottom door sill.

Types of replacement sliding screen door

Most patio doors have screens that run on the outside. But there are also models which have screens that run in the center between the sliding doors. Other manufacturers such as Pella, have screen doors that run on the inside.

Most outside and center run screen doors are easy to replace. Inside run screen doors though use special latch hardware, wooden trim and rollers that often force you to deal with the original manufacturer.
