A patio room enclosure can turn a front porch into a much more usuable space in the summertime. Especially in rural areas where flies and mosquitoes can be very bad. Using materials such as strong extruded aluminum patio screen bars makes the screen porch a lot more durable than wood construction and much easier to take down and repair when necessary. Using this material also makes it easy to add in sliding screen doors and storm doors just by building out the necessary openings. The screen bars also allow the use of very wide screen material so that the outside view is not obstructed by thick wooden posts.
Aluminum Screen Porch FramingThe framing used on this patio room enclosure is all heavy duty extruded aluminum normally used on sliding screen doors. With a wooden screen porch you would normally be using 4" x 4" pressure treated posts on an application like this, but the aluminum allows the screen porch construction to blend in much better with the house. Because its powder coated at the factory, there is no regular painting required. The frames can also be taken down easily should new screen cloth need to be installed. This is much easier than having to remove hundreds of old staples in a wooden porch. This screen porch also has a sliding screen door built right into the side. Because the same bar is used in the porch as in the sliding door, everything fits together nicely.

Existing Brick or Steel Support ColumnsThe house shown already has a porch area installed by the border with steel posts trimmed out with wood and with brick below. The aluminum bars used to build the screen enclosure can be matched nicely to the existing columns so that the entire porch looks like it was made that way.
On the inside the addition of the screen porch makes the space look much more like a room even the the only thing seperating the space from the outdoors is the screen material itself. Two seperate frames have been made to divide the screen panels at the top of the brick on each column.

Enclosures with Screened RoofsScreen enclosures can also be built so that the roof of exsting porch is extended outward so that a screened in roof area becomes possible. These kind of enclosures are often used in warm U.S. states like Florida where they are used to completely enclose outdoor pools. But the same enclosures can be used anywhere flies and bugs are a problem. They also are a solution if there are concerns about mosquitoes carrying west nile virus in your area.
All these enclosures were built by Guy Manning. If you would like more information about the materials used or need to contact Mr Manning to build a screen enclosure, please use the contact form below.
