Patio Dog Door
A good strong patio dog door is a practical answer if you have a fairly large dog who needs to get in and out of the house by them selves. A patio dog door will install in your existing patio door yet still allow the patio door to operate normally. It also has the benefit that if you move house, you can pull the dog door out and take it with you.
If you are considering this type of dog door you need to first measure the height and width of your patio door. The height of patio doors varies from one manufacturer to another. There is no standard height, just a range of heights between 78" and 84". Many dog doors are adjustable for different height patio doors so make sure your will fit. The width of your patio door is also important. Your dog door will take up space and will reduce the opening that you will have left to walk through. If you have a small patio door, you may not be able to slide the door across far enough for you to comfortably get through.
Most dog doors designed today come sealing kits to make sure there are no gaps to let drafts in. This is especially important if you live in a cold climate. Also be sure your door lock hardware can be relocated to the new dog door frame successfully. You need to be able to lock your patio door just the same way as before the dog door was installedNewer dog doors also have options with respect to the type of glass used in them. Some have double glazed sealed glass just like that used in your existing patio door. If you live in a cold area, getting a properly insulated dog door is going to be important. Click the
