Old aluminum and steel spline

by Jim P

I,m having problems figuring out how to replace the screen on an Anderson screen window. It has no spline, and seems that they use solid aluminum spline strips

Many companies used hollow square aluminum tubing and even solid 1/4" steel rod for spline back in the 1950's and 1960's.

You can replace the aluminum and steel spline with 1/4" diameter plastic spline, either polyfoam or vinyl.

To remove the old spline, you will need to use a sharp awl and dig into a corner of the screen frame to hook the aluminum out of the spline channel. Just make sure you have the plastic screen to replace it first !

Be glad to help if you cant find the right size spline locally.
